I have made another canvas....my new addiction.....a mixed media..incorporating ANTIQUE quilt pieces and paints/inks/bookpapers/tissues/music sheets/glitter...and anything else that might have fallen on the floor (lol....just kidding!....maybe not!!)

DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE?

 

Sweet...and oh so fun to make!..I took a rescued vintage quilt piece from a "bowtie quilt" and turned it into a snowman...with a hand-dyed carrot nose stitched on...His eyes are gigando snaps from my stash...some floss whipped around the outside edges makes him almost POP off the canvas ( but he is not going anywhere!)

 

Look closely at ALL the layers...OH MY GOODNESS...this is sooooooooo fun!!!

Some modelling paste and punchenella makes for awesome snow texture!

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEE making these mixed media pieces..... The inspiration is never ending....My favorite music.....song titles.....and poems keep me creating these

RANT...no pictures...just Venting....

Today...was just another day off from work...and I figured since we have lived here for over a year and a half, that I should try to go and get my driver's license...AGAIN!...I say, AGAIN, since this was the FOURTH time I have made the trip to DMV.

 

You see...I evidently need more proof....The first time, my birth certificate (with my feet stamped on it) was NOT the correct one....trip 2...not the correct MARRIAGE certificate that shows my maiden name/first married name/present name all linky-do'd together...

The 3rd time...was NOT the charm......I am thinking I remember THAT day, that the waiting room was totally filled with a gazillion others....WAITING...and I have never been a good waiter!

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo...TODAY.....WAS the day.......NOT!

The proof of residency, only had my hubby's name on it (somehow the marriage certificate did not linky-do enough for that)......"do you work?"...the sweet lady behind the desk says.....Yes....."So, you can call your work and have them fax over proof of your address and that will do"........Er....evidently having NO idea what THAT would entail....

Soooooooooooooooo ...I left...again....with no UPDATED drivers license..Thank goodness, my OLD one  from Tennessee  is still good for another 10 months.......Perhaps I will make it back over to DMV before then....wish me luck!

 

OK.....Rant over...venting finished......Now off to my HappyPlace...creating something FUN!!!

Here is "Autumn"...She is made from a "repurposed" Wilton cake round ( GREAT circle cardboard shapes!....I don't really BAKE...but I LOVEEEEE to CREATE!)

 

Covered with some scrapbook paper from my stash...and inked up a tad grungy.....

 

I found an OLDOLDOLD padlock in my box o junque....and thought..."OH my goodness...I see a FACE there!......added some spiral paperclips for her eyes...along with ribbons for her hair!

Also...from the "box o junque", a sweet leaf charm for her necklace.

Her dress, from a VINTAGE hankie...VERY AUTUMNAL.....and a cut of antique lace for her wings!

Tulip Tie-Dye and E-Book REVIEW

Okeeedokeeeee......so, this is my second attempt to get this post up and going........

I was asked to review a brand new Ebook put out by ilovetocreate.com

using a  Tulip Tie-Dye kit....its been MANYMANY years since  I tried my hand at tie dyeing.

I was sent the "kit"...and asked to make something...write supplies & instructions and post about it.

Soooooo.....I got together a couple of "blanks" from my stash...a Gerber Onesie and a bar cloth from Target....and went for it!

I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee the OMBRE look....so, following the AWESOME instructions ( seriously, I could not have explained it better!)..... I created these:

Just stopping in....

...to blogger world.....I have had 2 days off from my "day" job ( which is not really just a day job) at Lowes Home Improvement....We work a rotating schedule...so this was my "weekend off".....

Yesterday, I enjoyed a few hours of "brain candy"...those tv shows that are strictly for entertainment purposes...no thinking required....AND THEN.....while waiting for hubby to come home from his work...I had an energy drink ( @ 8:30pm.....WITW!!!!!???)...soooooo I was creating up a storm for the next few hours!....whoooowhooooo!

I have a store up north that has been selling my cards from StudioBeeCreations

...its awesome that anything I send them sells ( eventually...)....and she is always asking for more....

Soooooooo, today I have been ultra creative in the studio......getting ready to send out another package.....

Sooooo...this is what I started with...a little wooden carry-all, that has been in my stash for several years....an original from GW..I painted it shabbychic white and it stayed like that...BORING!

 I actually think it was for utensils, maybe...it measures 10"x8"x5".....and I took it from this:

Using techniques I have gleened from stalking Christy Tomlinson of ScarletLime and

JulieFei-Fan Balzer of Balzer Designs ...and pulling out stuff from my stash, I decorated the "tote" with paints, stamps, inks, ribbons, rub-ons....some vintage yo-yo's from my ETSY shop StudioBeeCreations, along with one of my NEW to the shop BLOOMERS!!!!

How much FUN!!!!...I also rescued a plain jane clipboard and made it feel the love of  Everything ALtered, with more papers from ScarletLime...

............and the "secret weapon".....

Looking for ME!

Soooooooooooooo...here is just a quickie post....so I can say that I did.....so that I can say what I am UP to!

Years ago....we owned and operated a home-based business we called Mama's Attic....It all started with taking the plunge...and taking my "wares" to a wholesale trade show in Kansas City. We got soooo many orders   that my hubby quit his job so that we could fill them.....and so the story goes that we continued to do trade shows..and local craft shows. We "evolved"......we made "stuff outta junk"...repurposing found objects aka: treasures from the past..."reborn" into  one-of-a-kind collectibles.

Mama's Attic sold to stores all across the USA, Canada, England and Japan ...and we even had a contract with Cracker Barrel stores, as well as being featured in Gooseberry Patch and Paisley Panda catalogs.

Fast forward...today.......due to the economy ( dont think I need to spell that out)...we had to join the outside workforce....and now both hubby and I work for a major home improvement store (check past posts)......That being said...I am soooooooooooooooo wanting to get back to my creative endeavors FULLTIME!

Soooooooo...( yeah...I said quickie post!)...here I am...putting myself out there.....With my family totally encouraging me...I am stepping out to show my wares...again. Please check out my Etsy shop StudioBeeCreations

Jimminy Cricket!!...its been a month!

ALAS......another month has passed since my last post...WITW!!???

BUT!!....I have been uber bizzzy.....creating some new items for my sweet Canadian customer ( and friend for life) Connie....using bits and bobs from my stash...along with my awesome haul from Laura @ LillyBellesPaperie ......Yep...I should have taken a picture of all the awesome product, but, I was sooooo excited to jump in and create on my day off!....AND BOY HOWDY..did I ever have a blast!

FYI....for real...go visit her Esty shop....GREAT product...GREAT service!!

So...here is a card I created using LillyBelles  Color-Couture Cardstock,,,awesome quality....AND matching envies!!

I created my own paperdoll...cut from vintage book paper(aka recycled book from thrift store)...and then dressed her in October Afternoon Sidewalks paper pad....can you say yummy?!

I used a Martha punch, a vellum sticker from my stash...some trims and embellies and buttons all from.....yep!...LBP!!!

I used the same basic technique in paperpiecing with the gift tags:

I will be putting these all in my etsy shop StudioBeeCreations tonight....these cuties are OOAK...however...I can do similar designs!!

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST....(it has been a month of zero posts!)...here is a canvas I created using said paperdolls....LBP product....and techniques from ScarletLime Christy Thomlinson...AND Julie FeiFan Balzer Balzer designs....OMG...her stencils ROCK!!!!

This  saying is bittersweet....My Mother would always tell me this quote....when I was not behaving well....she passed away 10 years ago this month...and I miss her ......

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo....you just never know...who shapes your creativity.....

But, I for one....am LOVEEEEEEEEEin what I have!

Soooooooooooooooooo...the info on my altered art piece is:

I WAS going to alter BEEEEEEEatrice.......but, time got away from me....and I didnt want to "rush her"...she will be awesome when she is done...but, for now is a work of art in process....

Sooooooooooooooo....I had this vintage quilt piece "saved" in my stash from an antique dresden plate quilt...very loved and time-worn.....and attached it to a 12x12 canvas I purchased ( in bulk, of course!) from Michaels A&C.....The background  technique I used was based on a mixed media subscription kit I purchased from Christy Thomlinson @ ScarletLime....

she is absolutely AWESOME!!!!

I used vellum, bookpaper,paints,mod-podge,rub-ons, stickers, stamps and buttons all from my stash....seriously...the ONLY new thing here is the blank canvas!!!

I do have a few more "loved" antique quilt pieces....and will probably be making some more canvases to put in my Etsy shop StudioBeeCreations.....please keep me bookmarked in your favorites!!

HAPPY SPRING!!!!!

I know...I know......You don't have to tell me...I AM a slacker...I AM NOT good about my postings....What in the World?????.....I have sooooo much on my plate...and it's all my fault!

Ok...now that the rant is over...I would like to share one of my latest spring cards.....For my sweet customer Connie.....you see...she LOVEEEEEEEs the large & unusual...one-of-a-kind creations.....I think this one qualifies for sure!..(actual measure is 7.5" across!!).....She sent me this stitchery a while back, and I turned it into a combo Spring card and wall hanging......on the back (alas...no picture...SLACKER!.....) the sentiment was a welcome springtime from my stash....I mounted the stitchery onto a resized( was 8") cardboard cake round (also from my stash)...The FUNFUNFUN pom trim just HAD to be included...I LOVEEEEE pompoms!

Soooooo....there is some AWESOME news...(teaser)........that I will post about later this week....I only wish I could get the whole linky-do to pics, etc down better....sure would make posting MORE FUN!.....and I would not be such a SLACKER!

The Journey Begins.....

Whoooowhooooo....on a roll here!!!.....Since having to take a few days off from my regular job due to a stress fracture in my right foot...I have been able to let my creative juices flow in my BeeHive studio!!...(with my foot wrapped & elevated..of course!)

This is an 8x10 mixed media canvas I created from "leftovers"(I rarely throw anything away) from my ScarletLime http://www.scarletlime.com/papercrafting.html mixed media kit club....plus one of my latest alterd art books ( yes..I know I should be inserting said book title here..but, alas cannot find it in my studio right now...argh!)....ANYHOO.....She is  a bookpaper-doll....kinda out of proportion...but, my first of hopefully many more to come!...I am having a BLAST!!!

....it is from Christy's ScarletLime December mixed media kit....however I created it on a 12x12 canvas in my stash....and then...sticking to my "Queen of Little" title given me years ago whilest on the craftshow circuit...I created this ATC size and framed it in sweet ugly green:

Did I say how much FUNFUNFUN I am having????.....Well...I am back to work tomorrow....so I am heading back to the studio to "play" some more before the party is over.

Valentine's Day 2012..Mixed Media Loveeeeeee

Well......here is a mixed media creation I made for my sweet hubby this past Valentine's Day.....A picture from the past ( our 10th year Anniversary)..that I pulled out of the archives.

With my effort lately being to try to get myself BACK into the blogging mode...posting of pics of my latest passion...MIXED MEDIA ARTS.....I have to remember to take pics "along the way" as I am creating...so I can post the process.....But, for now...I will just have to show the end result and list some of my stash that I used.....

The actual "frame" is a vintage cupboard door that I salvaged from when we used to do our trade shows....I HAD TO HAVE it..for me!.....Painted...painted....oh, and then painted again...sanded....painted....you get the process....ModPodged left over papers from my mixed media kit from Scarletlime....(.loveeeee Christy Tomlinson).....and inks & sprays ( yeah...I REALLY need to be more exact with my descriptions!)....Fabric heart was handcut from some scrap fabric ( I cannot seem to throw anything out!)....

Anyhoo...my hubby loved his gift....a sweet reminder of us in those younger years ( wow...this was taken almost 22 years ago!).

Sooooo...come back & visit...I have soooo many ideas swimming & spinning in my head....BEEEEEatrice got a fresh coat of MY FUN FAVORITE TURQUOISE color...and I have started adding some tissue paper to her bodice.....ooooooh gonna be so yummy!

Meet BEEEEEEEEEatrice!!!!

She's been with me now for several years....purchased her while we were on the creative show circuit ( more like a circus!)...from an antiques dealer....Isn't she just wonderful???

Since moving to South Carolina to be closer to our grandguys, she has now become part of my studio...and my on-going Mixed Media Art project. I will show bits and pieces for the next few weeks...but she will make her DEBUT ...fully dressed and altered on my post for the
ALL THINGS ALTERED blog hop I am participating in this March...I will keep you posted!

In the meantime...I am having a blast in my new studio here in SC....still working full-time at Lowes...and creating any chance I can on my days off.....oooooooooooooh...TODAY is one of those days.....so TTFN...the creative juices are flowing!!
